Kevin Danner (MA) started Carbon Lock Tech with one goal in mind: to build an effective, impactful and scalable carbon dioxide removal and sequestration company.
His background in risk management and climate policy informs his understanding of climate change – and the very real challenges that lie ahead – while his passion for problem solving and innovation has helped him build a strong and dedicated team of business and engineering experts to help move the venture forward.
Chief Financial Officer
Ian Fodie is a Chartered Accountant (NZ) and the company’s Chief Financial Officer. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Otago, New Zealand and has over 35 years of experience in high-growth industries of biotechnology, life-sciences, mineral exploration, and entertainment. Ian has a strong record of identifying and improving corporate profitability and ensuring operational sustainability. He also serves as the company’s Corporate Secretary and sits on its Board of Directors. He resides in Toronto.
VP of Commercialization
Matt Schaubroeck (MBA) is an entrepreneur, coach, and mentor for early-stage companies. He has held Co-founder and C-suite titles in several innovative Canadian startups, including ioAirFlow (acquired in 2022) and PremiseHQ. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Matt worked as Director of Programming at North Forge Technology Exchange, Manitoba’s startup incubator.
Outside of work, Matt enjoys baking sourdough, playing cello, cross-country skiing, and long-distance running.
Rina Carlini (PhD) is both a scientist and business leader with over 25 years of experience in technology innovation, product development, commercialization, and tech ventures (and has over 100 patents to her name). She is former President and CEO of the Haltech Regional Innovation Centre and is currently Founder and President of Optimal Innovation Group Inc., a tech innovation consultancy specializing in helping tech startups commercialize and go to market.
Head of Biocarbon
Atish Kulkarni (MSc) heads the Biocarbon Research Group investigating the use of biocarbon in a range of high-value applications, and also provides support to refining Carbon Lock’s pyrolytic processes. He holds a Master’s Degree in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from Rutgers University and is extremely passionate about developing carbon removal solutions for the current climate crisis.
Outside of work, Atish enjoys hiking, playing softball, and experiencing diverse cultures through food.
Head of Technology Development
Ryan Zaari (PhD) leads the team responsible for developing technologies for carbon removal and sequestration, including the next generation of patented pyrolytic technologies. He holds a Doctorate in Physical Chemistry and a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering. He has years of experience in the development of Direct Air Capture (DAC) technologies with Vancouver-based Carbon Engineering.
Ryan lives in Winnipeg with his spouse and two young daughters, and when time allows practices yoga.
Patrick Oliver (P.Eng.) is responsible for supporting the design and commissioning biomass/organic waste processing and pyrolytic carbonization systems. His primary responsibilities include CAD modelling, fabrication, and PLC control implementation. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Manitoba and has focused on product development and design for over 20 years.
In his free time Patrick enjoys staying active by running, cycling, and curling.
Robin Smyth is key member of the Carbon Lock Tech management team and is responsible for ensuring that all systems run smoothly and efficiently. She oversees the daily operations of the office and manages critical functions including accounting and communications. Robin’s diverse background in administration was built in industry in accounting, manufacturing, recycling, and marketing.
Robin enjoys cooking, blogging, and spending time with friends, family, and her dog Lacie.
Laboratory Research Analyst
Sujindra Subedi (MSc) holds a Master’s Degree in Biotechnology from Tribhuvan University and has over 8 years of direct laboratory experience. His role involves performing physical and chemical characterization of organic waste and biocarbon to meet the certification requirements, as well as performing lab-scale trials for high-value applications of biocarbon.
During his free time, Sujindra enjoys going out for hikes, playing table tennis and volleyball.
Caitlyn Yim (BSc) supports the Biocarbon Research Team by researching various applications of biocarbon in industry and supporting the Technology Development team in unit operations. Having earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biosystems Engineering, she has a passion for diverting waste from landfills and recycling items to give them a second life.
In her downtime, Caitlyn enjoys spending time with her family and their two dogs and playing soccer.
Vikash Mishra is (BEng) responsible for the syngas management and has over eight years of experience in manufacturing operations, planning, installing, and commissioning industrial facilities. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the West Bengal University of Technology and, post degree diploma in Project Management from the University of Winnipeg.
Outside of work Vikash likes volunteering for communities and enjoys playing cricket.
Mevan Dheeraratne (BEng) is responsible for supporting the team in bio-oil and syngas management. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Huddersfield, UK, and has both academic knowledge and practical industry experience. He is dedicated to innovation and efficiency and is developing into a promising professional in his field.
Outside of work Mevan stays active by playing football and cricket.
