National startup competition featured at Manitoba’s largest cleantech conference
Carbon Lock Tech was selected as the $10,000 grand prize winner at the 2023 Manitoba Environmental Industries Association’s (MEIA) Green Dragons Lair pitch competition.
The contest, held at MEIA’s annual Cleantech Conference, offers a platform to Canadian startups who are working to commercialize and scale cleantech companies. Selected from dozens of reviewed applications, the top four finalists are invited to pitch in front of an audience of 600 industry experts, investors, and business leaders in Winnipeg.
“This was a team effort, a team win”, said Kevin Danner, President & CEO of Carbon Lock Tech. “Everyone here is highly committed to developing solutions for removing carbon from the atmosphere and locking it away for good.”
The prize money will allow the company to move ahead faster in its commercialization efforts, continuing to grow the company’s team and expanding its existing pool of partners and clients. The recognition also highlights the company’s potential environmental impact and market opportunity, which was part of the selection criteria from the competition’s judging panel.
“We’ve been busy, developing our carbonization technologies, researching our biocarbon applications, and building our business models and markets”, said Danner. “Our next goal is to set up a demonstration facility here in Manitoba, in partnership with strategic partners, and show the world how we can remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and sink it into agricultural soils, construction materials and green infrastructure. After this, we’ll look to scale this solution across Canada and around the world.”
The pitch competition coincided with Carbon Lock Tech’s launch of its seed round equity raise, which represents a significant opportunity for investors to join a company seeking to impact the climate crisis at a global level. The investment round is expected to close by March 2024.
The company’s impact was further emphasized in a November 2023 Winnipeg Free Press article, which is accessible at the following link: Cleantech’s Importance Highlighted
